Last week of school

So it's the last week of school and I feel kind of okay about it. I mean, I've been going to school since I was 4 or 5 and I haven't stopped since. I didn't take a break after high school and I sure as hell didn't take a break when I didn't even know what I wanted to do. Cue the music.....

Just to recap why I took soooooo long to earn my undergraduate degree:

Fall 01 - Sign up for classes at Laredo Community College and major in Music Education.
Fall 02 - Leave music education and begin taking classes for core curriculum.
Spring 03 - Finally pass my remedial Math course (Yeah, I suck at math)
Fall 03 - Begin first of 3 attempts at College Algebra. (First year at TAMIU)
Fall 04 - Finally left College Algebra in the dust with an A. WTF?
Spring 04 - Spring 07 = The worst time of my college life. Bouncing off C's and Drops while taking 2 classes each semester. Something I regret but then...
Fall 07 - Begin taking school more seriously and declare a major (Business Administration with Concentration in Marketing)
Fall 09 - HERE I AM!

As lame as that was I felt like I had to post it to see for myself just how much time I took/used/wasted to finally grow up and take college seriously.

So here's to a 6-month break from school and begin all over again in the Fall of 2010. I dunno why I'm pursuing a Masters if the world is going to end in 2012.

1. It's the last month of the year.
2. It's the last year of the decaded.
3. It's the month to celebrate the baby Jesus.
4. It's the month that the LOST season 5 DVD will come out in.
5. It's the month I FINALLY finish my undergraduate studies.
6. It's....whatever.

Anyway, so I kind of feel like the decade went by really fast. I think it has to do with the terrorist attacks of September 11. When it happened it was kind of surreal and the days and months following were kind of fucked up. Everyone being on edge and the following anthrax attacks, the "war on terror", people constantly complaining about airport security, Bush and his fuck ups, Octo-Mom...These were all painful but made the decade go by really fast.

I think I might create a TOP TEN list of things that made the decade memorable for me but then again I might not. If I have time which I hope I will after graduation. Anyway, peace and love to all my BBs.

The most popular statement uttered throughout Laredo homes besides "Ya calleron las estampias!" is "There's nothing to do here!" I agree that there isn't shit to do here except for what's already offered in other cities such as dining out, movies, bowling, etc.

City council members are debating bringing a waterpark here. AND now there is talk of coughing up close to $80,000 to do a study on a SNOW Park in Laredo. Honestly, I know that in order to do market research you need to have real money. Surveys and questionnaires can only go so far but THIS is one of the WORST ideas these idiots have ever considered.

For one this city is infatuated with soccer, football and baseball. Basketball might be interesting for a lot of people as well but this snowpark would be built to create interest in skiing. Honestly, what the fuck? As of this moment we are BARELY able to support a hockey team. Ticket sales are low and season tickets aren't selling that well. Why? Because hockey was a bad idea to begin with! Sure at first people were interested but now that the novelty has worn off they've resorted to giving tickets away at a Ross department store. (My friend Lucy can confirm this...lol)

Now imagine a huge snowpark, rare for this part of the country and now imagine a bunch of Laredoans trying to buy ski merchandise, training lessons, and being glued to the Winter Olympics. I can't picture because it's not what this culture is.

The unemployment rate is higher than the state average, 30% of the people live UNDER the poverty line, the economy is in the shitter and they want to continue to raise taxes to build something ridiculous. You know, I'm sure a lot of people are already regretting the building of the arena and the sales tax levied on us. It's like paying a mortagage for a mansion, while we work at the local Super S Foods, and still wanting to take out a nice car to drive our friends around.

Actually my blog was created on the 9th of September but I think I was busy doing homework or something.

I have a new phone to use on random ppl which btw I saw a really nice hottie getting some prints in the library but I'm too chicken shit to take a pic.

I just signed a new contract with T-mobile which upgraded my old BlackBerry Pearl to the new MyTouch. It's sort of like an iPhone without the heavy monthly price.

(Except in black)

Some nice features that I'm really enjoying right now are:

*like the ability to take creepy pictures of people without the camera making that little shutter noise
*I can record videos and upload them to my youtube account
*Some kick ass apps like the Calorie Counter, Magic Marker, Ringdroid (I can create my own ringtones), etc.
*Fast 3G network

And probably other stuff that I just haven't figured out yet.

The only drawback (that I know of right now) is that the qwerty keyboard is touch screen so sometimes I'll type lol and I'll get lok or whatever. Also about this touch screen is that it offers you the word THEY think you mean so when I type the name "Luis" and then press space key they assume you meant "Pussiance"...? wtf? Anyway, it's not THAT bad so whatever...

Maybe I'll upload more videos to youtube and then bring them here and transform this sexy blog into a sexy Vlog!! I'll call it...."Best Vlog: Bringing you useless shit since 2007 and useless video encounters since September 09!"

Sometimes I feel people are dicks/cunts because of shit they go through and then take it out on innocent bystanders. Or maybe it's just bad customer service in Laredo? Don't get me wrong I've been known to roll my eyes to customers right in front of them and hang up on them when they get all testy (see post from a several days ago...) but I don't ever start arguing with them. Even when I know I'm right I'll just stay quiet and let them bark but wtf @ customer service at the Wal-Mart on San Bernardo. This old bag of bones was being a big bitch earlier today.

I don't wanna get into it too much but she said I gave her attitude when I gave her my card. Why would I do that to a total stranger? Is it because of my natural dickish tendencies? I don't think so, I save my nasty comments for this blog.

Anyway, I got out from class and it was basically introducing ourselves (or actually introducing someone else...:\) and our professor hails from Tennessee and kind of looks like US politician John Edwards. I dunno, with the scandal surrounding his current wife and his mistress I wouldn't surprised if he left wherever he's from (maybe Tennessee) and decided to teach a marketing class in South Texas.

Also, my next class is the Science class which starts at 6...*sigh* this looks like it'll be a nightmare. :-(

The only good thing is that it seems like it'll be easy. We got out a bit early which is great because 3 hours in that lab listening to the professor talk about boring shit ain't Timmy's idea of a fun time.

@ 4:30 I have a marketing class which seems like it'll be fun but then again it's not the professor I was hoping for. I have no clue who the guy is but I hope he's just as engaging as Dr. Mukherji.

I went to school today to sign up for one more class. I need a science course before I graduate this December. I know it's late and all and what made it worse was that EVERY science class (that was not an upper level course) was taken at the local community colleges AND my university. I called to see if I could be squeezed into a closed course and this douchebag gave me attitude saying that I shouldn't have waited so long and that I would have to graduate next semester. I went over there and spoke with the assistant dean of the science department and he said it was fine and added me to an intro couse. It was that easy but the other douchebag just wanted me to worry.

Also, I went to purchase my books and that came out to under 500 bucks. It seems like a lot but it's actually cheaper than previous semesters. Good thing I asked for school loans to purchase this because I would not be able to get these in time for classes next week. Anyway, most of them are used and I know that by the end of the semester these books will stay on my bookshelf and will not be taken back from the bookstore. *SIGH*

Road Trip/Day 2 of P. Loser

So today a friend and I went to Falcon State Park (I think that's the name..lol) and we had fun. I drove over there and it wasn't that long. I've actually never driven there but it went by fast with Britney in the background and we talked about the most random shit. I forget what exactly but it was really fun.

Day #2 of Project Loser.

What did I do today to help with this project? Well, I ate a turkey sandwich (without mayo and mustard) and spend a good 20 minutes walking in this nature trail in 100 degree heat. It wasn't much for today but it helped that I didn't eat anything terrible. Some chips here and there but just a sandwich and diet coke. Anyway, I promise to try harder tomorrow. lol

Project Loser

I've decided I need to start a project. I think it's because of the movie 'Julie & Julia' that I'm doing this. I started exercising again and I'm making plans to lose a certain amount of weight by my graduation this December. I'm hoping to lose 20 lbs. which might not seem like a lot for 3 months and 13 days but I think it kind of is. Maybe it is a lot, I dunno.

At this moment I weigh close to 170 lbs and I want to bring it down to 140 but 150 is good enough for now. I will update this blog with what I did to help me with this new project.

Nightmare on LaFayette Street

I just had a nap like 10 minutes ago and had the weirdest/scariest dream. I remember reading on wikipedia about sleep paralysis and that it happens once a year and I think I just had a form of it right now.

I wrote it down before I would forget so what I'm about to type is really just me copying it exactly the way I wrote it on paper and sorry for being so dramatic...lol

I was dreamt that I was in the living room with my sister and the lights were off. All of a sudden I drop an envelope with a bunch of important documents on the floor and my sister leaves. I call out for her and call her the word "puta" for some reason. The whole house is dark and I just see my mom come in and she is pissed becuz I called my sister that word. She corners me and holds down one of my arms to slap me to never call her that again. After that she slaps me once and for some reason I start to scratch her really hard with the arm she's holding down and she gives me this look like she's terrified or seen something in my eyes...? My body starts to shake and then I wake up on the sofa in my room where I'm taking the nap. My hand is down the sofa and I'm thinking "That was just a dream" then I pull it out and it gets pulled down and I'm like "WTF?" I try pulling it out but it won't let me. Then I "wake up" again and I pull it out quickly. I got up and thought "Now THAT was a dream" and I walk around my room & someone calls me "puta" and suddenly I'm on the sofa again with my hand down the couch. I pull it with my left hand and I'm slowly able to pull it out and I start throwing pillows around my room and saying "HEY!" but nothing. Then I wake up once more and I'm on the sofa with my arm down the couch. This time I get up, go to the actual living room to look for someone to tell. I came back and wrote this down.

That was it...and btw, I'm looking at the sofa right now, scared shitless and the pillows are there. I know it sounds like a naiive little boy being scared of the sofa but sometimes these dreams can be so real that you can't help but feel a bit scared. lol

So it's the beginning of the new semester, or SSII, and I feel that this class will be a breeze when compared to the nightmare that was Sanchez, the Stats Nazi. Anyway, so my professor is really nice and he's a PhD student whose major is Finance but even for a Finance major he seems normal. Kidding to all those Finance majors, which I doubt even visit my blog. Anyway, my group seems like an okay bunch but what I'm really looking forward to is finishing this session so I can have at least 2 weeks of zero classes. Then my final semester should start in late August which looks to be memorable.

Oh yeah, I've started a new show and this one is an "oldie" and by "oldie" I mean a show I didn't watch when it was being aired originally. Anyway, so far I've seen the first season and I'm in the middle of the 2nd season. I like it a lot but what I didn't care for in the first season was that Scully was always "away" doing FBI investigating while Mulder was being raped by freaks. Glad to see that at the end of the first season Scully was debating with Mulder's source about who should trade the baby alien for Mulder. Anyway....um,...I like the show if you like it.

So I met a friend today who already finished his undergraduate studies. He earned his degree in the same concentration that I'm currently seeking. AnyWHO, he's kind of having a hard time finding a job and then he started talking with this other chick who said she'd do into teaching (even though she's a Business major). I've had other friends go into teaching that weren't majoring in History or Science or Math and I feel like it's like grasping at straws. Is that the right phrase? Obviously, I see nothing wrong with teaching since that was my original plan (Music Education) but I can' t picture myself in front of a bunch of students talking about who knows what...I was informed that a local school district actually offers Business classes at the Magnet Schools but I dunno if even then I'd be interested in that.

This blog is turning more into a Rant Space for me but I promise I'll lay off the rants...for a bit.

1. Okay so my Stats professor wants us to purchase this program online for $37 bucks which would let us send him these certificates for the class. A friend told me that each certificate takes about an hour...ugh (and is math-related...double ugh) AND that we have to turn in 60 certificates for this summer session. It counts for 20% of the final grade so I can't avoid these. Well I can if I want to fail. I also have to do his assigned homeworks, tests, projects, etc. So this summer seems painful.

2. After I've purchased this program (done!) then I have to download the program. My computer is the biggest bitch alive. The "on" button does not work and I need a new battery. This means that I have to have my laptop connected at all times if not it'll turn off and I won't be able to turn it back on unless press the "on" button hard enough, which I've done so many times and I think it's getting damaged. Anyway, this program has to be downloaded online...which leads to rant number 3!

3. I have NetZero dial-up and it is the slowest mother fucker alive. I've already spent 1 1/2 and it's barely at 25% download. Then again what do you expect for internet service at 4.95 a month...or is it 9.95?

This fuckface aka Sanchez-Pena is truly living up to the stories. First homework was easy. All we had to do was take an online quiz based on Chapters 1 & 2. Fine. Now we get to Homework 2 and he gives us this loooooooooooong ass assignment. Nobody said that it was an easy course but this guy won't even teach us anything about the homework. He assigns the long assignment and expects us to learn the formulas just by reading them. Now, I HATE math and everything that comes with it so for him to expect me to do solve these difficult problems by reading the paragraphs and learning by the examples is like asking Paris Hilton to stop creating all these new STDs...it can't be done!!!!1

I think this course is going to be a 2-parter. I'll probably do a certain amount of homework assignments and try to catch up with the certificates. Damn, I forgot about those. Well, if I end up dropping this douche's class then I'm going to have to meet him again during SS2.

So it's the first day of SSI and I'm already feeling nervous over the professor's BS (Sanchez-Pena). I've taken a class with this guy before and although he is a nice guy he really does not teach anything at all and I'm already dreading listening to his ramblings about life and whatnot and I expect to learn absolutely nothing about Statistics...at least not from him. This guy is a nightmare on this subject and many have dropped his course and have tried to get him fired but this bobble-head monster won't quit.

...and when I'm not sick I'm tired, I am sick and tired of all the bullshit that comes with the last week of school. For one, finals are a bitch. They always are because I feel like a nervous wreck cramming so much shit into my barely functioning brain and then I feel like I don't remember half of it walking to class. The good thing is that I do remember the crap I cram and I do okay. I guess it's just nerves. The other thing I hate is selling my books back to the college bookstore. Now, I had a class where my group and I had to prepare a marketing plan for a business we want to bring to Laredo. We chose to create an online textbook store that disburses books in e-format. We go green and we screw over the college bookstores. Who knows if it would have worked (and if it did then we would have made a pretty penny with a small % of the market). So the main reason we thought this was a cool idea was because of how much the bookstores screw you over when you try to sell your books back. They only give you 50% back and that's IF they are offering the course next semester. They have yet to buy a SINGLE book from me. These motherfuckers need to burn in nerd hell!!!!111111uno

Anyway, I wasn't going to sell all of my books because I actually liked some of them. But what the fuck am I going to do with the Entrepreneur and Innovation textbook? This has a bunch of general business information that I've acquired through my many business classes. This was a total waste of financial aid money. The wonderful Bea Arthur has died. I found out the news last night and when I did I couldn't help but feel depressed. She was a huge part of my TV life for the past decade and she is by far my favorite tv character of all time. I will cherish the great scenes between her and Estelle Getty (who played her mother and also died this year) and laugh every time she makes a sarcastic remark about Blanche's sex life or Rose and her St. Olaf stories. If you read my previous post, actually two posts ago, you'd know my rant about the internship. At first I thought it kind of screwed around with my graduation date because I was planning on fininshing my undergraduate studies this upcoming fall and I thought that since I didn't end up applying for the internship I would have to take an extra class this fall. This would mean that I would have to take 4 in the fall and 3 in the spring. Now that I know I'm NOT going to be doing the internship I think it's best if I take two classes that are cake this SSI & II and end up with 5 classes for the Fall.

We'll see how that goes. Maybe I'll end up finishing this fall afer all.

Okay, so my place of employment was offering a Management Intership and if I got selected this internship would have counted as a Advanced Business Elective and I could have been done with my classes by this upcoming fall. That would have been too perfect right? Add to the fact that I would have also been paid 13 bucks an hour (4 dollars more than right now) AND it would have looked nice on my resume.

The administrative assistant at my store, Becky Espinoza (yeah, I'm calling you out woman!) was notified of my intention since December! She said she would keep a look out for this and notifiy me when she got details about it. Now, I looked into it myself and I met ALL the requirements plus I work at the store which would also be good if I ever wanted to go to San Antonio to work at their corporate offices as a starting point. Well now it's March and I knew that the year before the deadline was around April and I still hadn't received anything from Becky so I decided to call Human Resources and the lady told me that they had moved the deadline to February! I was like "Quuuuuueeeee?" and I told her that Becky did not say anything to me and she replied with obvious disappointment in that woman. I called Becky to bitch at her. She answered and when I told her that I missed the deadline and that she never said anything to me she stayed quiet and said "I'm sorry, I forgot about it." Now dont' get me wrong, I didn't just tell her in December and expect her to remember all this time. I reminded her constantly. She said she didn't receive an email but felt bad that she didn't contact HR. So I hung up on her mid-sentence.

Back to the HR lady, she said I could apply next year. :( Now I'm not going to take 7 classes during the Fall semester and risk dropping a class. I'll just split the classes and take 4 fall and 3 Spring.

I've always thought (not always but when I first realized what messenger was and it's little codes that come with) that internet slang is tricky when communicating with foreign friends. Of course, I don't have any foreign friends with the exception of those I've met online. Everyone gets "lol" but do they actually do it? There's different ways of expressing how serious you are at "lol-ing" like the simple "lol" (which is in my opinion more like a chuckle) and then there's the serious "haha" or "jaja" in Spanish. It's more of a sarcastic "lol" and I don't enjoy those as much. Then there's the lmao which you know what it means and if you don't then look it up in wikipedia. I traditionally use L.M.A.O. or L! M! A! O! to show how seriously funny something was. Of course some will think "Get a hold of youself it isn't THAT funny!" Then there's those that go the extra mile and type ROTFLMMFAO, which stands for "Really On The Floor Laughing My MotherFucking Ass Off!" These people need to be shot.

J.R.R. Tolkien: New book due out this spring

The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun, J.R.R. Tolkien's previously unpublished early-career work based on Norse mythology, will be released this spring, the Associated Press is reporting. Tolkien wrote the book, which predates his seminal The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, in the 1920s and 1930s, when he was teaching at Oxford University. He died in 1973.
I don't know if I'll buy this. I'm currently reading the first book (The Lord of the Rings, not The Hobbit) and I think because I've seen the movie the adventures are easier to picture in my head. I also purchased The Children of Hurin but I won't start that till I'm done with the rest of the trilogy. That probably won't be until my 20th high school reunion.
